Jay-Z Takes on the Establishment; Football Gets Expensive

Jay-Z Expands His Empire

Already regarded as something of a mogul within the music industry, Jay-Z is said to be planning to expand his business empire by furthering the reach of his management firm.

Roc Nation currently represents a roster of some of the biggest names in the business, including Shakira, Kylie Minogue, Haim, Rihanna, and Calvin Harris. Under the expansion, the firm will represent film and TV stars alongside athletes and even sports stars.

“Jay-Z is looking to build a global management company,” said one insider.

“He already manages artists at Roc Nation. But the plan is to start departments for actors, TV personalities, models and designers, so they can cover the whole entertainment industry.”

Maybe the expansion is another way to pay for the tropical island he’s in the process of buying as an anniversary present for his wife Beyoncé? Or maybe he’s hoping that by becoming a captain of industry in the U.S., he will be able to get an even easier visa to Cuba next time.

RM466 Million – For a Footballer?

He might be the wunderkind of the English Premier League, but even 23-year-old Gareth Bale probably had to double check when he heard the value of his new price tag.

Tottenham Hotspurs Chairman Daniel Levy gave him the world-record £100 million (RM466 million) price partly to put off a pack of interested bidders, including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Indeed it was rumoured this week that Bayern’s new manager Pep Guardiola was determined to make Bale his first major signing.

But a price tag like that would cause anyone to stop in their tracks. It’s a sure sign that Levy wants the goal scorer to stick around for at least one more year.

However, Spurs may be forced into a compromise if they don’t manage to land the lucrative spot in the Champions League at the end of this season.

Their chances of finishing in the top four are already slim but with some tough matches coming up and several injured players on the bench, Levy might be forced to reconsider his astronomical valuation.
