Madonna’s Misadventure; Anonymous Declares War

Madonna’s Misadventure in Malawi

Malawi’s President Joyce Banda has attacked the Queen of Pop Madonna for apparently reneging on a promise to build a RM47 million academy for girls in the country.

Instead of the academy, Madonna alleges that she paid for ten schools to be built across the country instead, something that President Banda disputes.

“Where are the ten schools she has built?” she asked.

“In some cases she just renovated an already existing block. No one should just come here and say ‘I’m building a classroom’ without needs assessment. It is an insult to the people.”

After adopting a son there in 2006 and a daughter in 2009, Madonna stopped construction of the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls and fired staff after rumours of mismanagement, building the classrooms instead.

“When you look at the totality of it, it is helpful, every bit helps, but it is a long shot to call it significant,” said Eunice Kazembe, the Malawian Education Minister.

Anonymous Declares War on North Korea

As the region worries about North Korea’s continued bellicosity, there is hopefully some way to go before the situation boils over into violence. But for notorious online hacking group Anonymous, the war has already begun – in cyberspace at least.

This week the official North Korea Twitter and Flickr accounts were hacked by the group as part of their #OpFreeKorea campaign. This is something that has caused quite a stir among the few with Internet access in the People’s Republic.

On the sites the group posted a ‘wanted poster’ graphic they’ve called “Kim Jong-Un AKA Nuke Nuke Mickey Lover” which morphs the young leaders face with a pigs snout and ears and gives him a tattoo of Mickey Mouse.

As if this wasn’t enough, Anonymous has called for Kim Jong-Un to resign for what they describe as “threatening world peace with ICBMs and nuclear weapons, wasting money while his people starve and concentration camps and the worst human rights violations in the world.”

Presumably U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will be slightly more tactful in his next speech.
